enter to wincomp time 3

The School Council have been going crazy this term for competitions.  As well as bringing you the Bolton Whites design a pantomime costume competition (which was won by Nathan B!) and a design an anti-bullying baseball hat competition we have also brought you a name the Haigh county park mascot competition, name the St David’s houses competition and now a design a calendar month competition.

The winners of the mascot competition will win a turn on the newly opened adventure golf at Haigh hall and the chance to meet the mascot. Update:  Unfortunately a pupil from another school won this time.  Better luck next time everybody.

We can’t wait to start having house meetings and gaining lots of house points for our houses.

Update: The winner of the name the houses competition was Harrison S with his suggestions of names of families that have lived in Haigh Hall and those that built our school.  The new house names are: Crawford (blue shield with the family’s coat of arms and a harp from our school badge) , Lindsay (green shield with the family’s coat of arms and a tree to represent our ‘Woody’ sycamore tree on our playground ) , Balcarres (yellow shield with the family’s coat of arms and a harp from our school badge) and Bradshaigh (red shield with the family’s coat of arms and a book from our school badge). Well done Harrison, your ideas were fab!

The winners of the design a calendar month competition will receive printed copies of the finished calendar, professionally printed and framed copies of their art work along with some mystery prizes.  They will also win £100 worth of printed items for our school.

Good luck with all your entries everyone, we will let you know the winners as soon as they have been announced.

Road Safety Week20-11-2016 | 19:57:21 | No Comments

This week is Road Safety Week and we have focused on road safety via an early visit last week from road safety professional Steve Bradshaw and his colleague Rachael.  The team worked with each class (see class 2 having fun and learning lots during their workshop below) on all aspects of road safety and have distributed  hi-vis wear to year 6 pupils for them to wear to help them ‘be safe, be seen’ in the dark autumn evenings.

The Team also distributed a reflector along with a road safety work book to each pupil and we will be continuing to focus on road safety throughout this week in classes.

This year’s Road Safety Week theme ‘Make the pledge’ is all about encouraging everyone to make the pledge to follow 6 simple elements to help realise the road safety charity Brake’s vision of a world where streets are pleasant, unpolluted  and safe for everyone to use freely- see the following factsheet

The 6 elements of the pledge are:

Slow, Sober, Secure, Silent, Sharp, Sustainable.

Anti-Bullying Week16-11-2016 | 16:59:02 | No Comments

Power for good logo

This week is Anti-bullying week, which is all about using your power for good and this year we have chosen to raise awareness in a number of ways, through posters displayed around school, anti-bullying assemblies and work focusing on anti-bullying in classes.

A ‘design an anti-bullying baseball cap logo competition has also taken place.   The five overall winners each won a prize and had their cap made up for them to wear to school during the week.  See the photos below of the winning designs.  This competition was judged by School Council members who will be raising awareness by displaying posters in their own classrooms and will also be giving out a ‘power for good’ (this year’s theme) anti-bullying sticker to each pupil.

Well done everyone, there were some brilliant designs and it was very difficult for the school council to narrow it down, so there were 5 winners, one first place, one second and three third place.  See the photos of the winning designs below, plus the finished caps, modelled by the winners!

The winners were:

First Place – Claire P, Second Place – Bruce S, Joint third place – Alex H, Daniel G and Nathan B

Anti-bullying cap - First Place    Anti-bullying cap comp - second place

Anti-bullying cap - third place Anti-bullying cap - third place 2 Anti-bullying cap - third place 1

Every family will also receive a free copy of the excellent ‘tips for parents and carers’  from the anti-bullying alliance which details ways you can help your child if you feel he or she is being bullied.
