School Council Gardening Projects05-04-2015 | 22:28:45 | No Comments

Every year the School Council help to brighten up St David’s by asking for donations of plants and bulbs to plant in our quiet area garden and around our playground.  This year we will be writing to local garden centres and other businesses to ask for donations.  Check here regularly for updates on our progress.

So far this year we have arranged for officers from Wigan and Leigh Housing to come in and run a ‘grow your own’ session for us in May.  The aim of the session is to show children how to grow their own fruit and vegetables as a way of keeping healthy.  Check back here for further info in May.

Last week we arranged for every child in school to plant a daffodil bulb under our ‘Woody’ tree.  Thank you to Mrs Wynne for the very kind donation of 200 bulbs!  We will be planting the remaining bulbs at the front of school and in pots around the playground.  Thank you also to Mrs Blakemore, Miss Birtwhistle, Miss Cunliffe, Mrs Gillespie, Mr Baybutt, Mrs Butler, Mrs McEntee and Mrs Harrison for helping the pupils to plant the bulbs.  And a big thank you also to Stephen F and Anthony D, our resident expert gardeners for your help and advice.  We hope the daffodils will now come up in many future springs to come.

See the photos below of some of the pupils planting their bulbs.
